31 Days of Discipline- {Day 14}

Read through the whole post...there is an awesome giveaway at the end :)!!!

Okay...so today I am going to share some practical ways for you and I to get our prayer on!
  • The first thing I want to share has really changed my prayer life!  A little over a month ago, my friend Leigh shared how she prays with our ladies small group.  Basically she chooses one prayer focus for each day, and spends the day praying just for that!  I started doing that soon after and it has been awesome!  It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed with things that need to be prayed about, and keeps me thinking of the things I am praying for throughout the day! Here is my daily schedule:

Monday-Family
I pray in depth for my hubbs and the girls,
and then for extended family!

Tuesday-School
I am the special ed. coordinator at a private school,
so I pray for faculty and students

Wednesday-Neighborhood
I pray for the unbelievers in my neighborhood
and ask for opportunities to share God's truth with them!

Thursday-Missions
My husband is part of a ministry that works with the church/denominational
leaders in several different countries throughout the world,  on making disciples and
strategically reaching their nation with the gospel!
I pray for the families we know in those countries, doing that work,
and for the mission organization as a whole!

Friday-Friends
I pray for whatever needs my friends might have
and for their continued spiritual growth!

Saturday-Church
I pray for my church leaders, and the church
leaders in my city.  I also pray that those attending church in
my area would be effective communicators of the gospel so
that those in our city might have
the opportunity to hear!

Sunday-College girls
I lead a bible study for college girls on
Tuesday's and then meet with two others separately. Plus we have a
recent graduate living with us, raising support for Campus Crusade!

Obviously you can pray as needs arise, but this really helps me focus my prayers throughout the day.  I find myself praying for these things much more often, and being more aware of God working in these areas!  I do think it is also important to have some prayer time that focuses on the scripture you are reading, and on listening to what God would have you say/do/change/know.
  • Another great set of resources are the Power of a Praying series by Stormie Omartian.  A very sweet, godly woman that I work with (who also happens to be a best friend's mother) was telling me how she has used these daily since her children were babies.  She has kept notes in the  margins about specifics in regards to her husband and children, and the ways God has answered her prayers! There are tons of books in this series, Power of a Praying Wife, Power of a Praying Mother, Power of a Praying Church, etc.  I used the Power of a Praying Wife when we first got married and learned how to pray for Esteban early on! Check out the rest of the books here!
  • Lastly...I want to talk about journaling!  There have been seasons in my life where I have journaled my prayers.  It is so amazing to look back and see how God has answered those prayers.  It also is a great way to stay awake if you are praying early in the morning, and late at night.  I would write a scripture down and then pray for whatever that scripture talked about. Or just pour my heart out with requests, praise and confession!  Writing your prayers down can be super powerful!  So....today I want to giveaway an awesome journal to one of you lucky readers!
Kara from Paper Sunday, has agreed to give away one of her awesome personalized journals to one of you awesome, faithful, disciplined ladies (or gentlemen I suppose!).  The really neat thing about the journals over at Paper Sunday is that they have verses at the top of the pages that are personalized with your name in them.  So for example mine would say:
My grace is sufficient for you, Danielle, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.      2 Corinthians 12:9
And I pray that you, Danielle, being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the saints to grasp how wide and long and high is the love of Christ for you.
Ephesians 3:18
How awesome is that!  Each day, you would start your prayers off with God, using His word, to speak right to you!  And...there are tons of cute designs, sure to suit anyone's taste!

Kara's also got lots of other great products that would make awesome gifts for this holiday season!
(I am planning on ordering some as Christmas gifts!)

Hi,
I'm visiting your blog from the link on Inspired to Action. I really like this post about chosing one thing to pray about per day. I'm going to have to incorporate that. Also the journals are very cute. I really like the JAX one.
